The attack on journalist Maimouna Ndour Faye in Dakar on the night of February 29 has triggered widespread indignation in Senegal, which is grappling with a serious political crisis following the postponement of the presidential election.

Maimouna Ndour Faye, the director of private channel 7TV, was reportedly “savagely attacked and violently stabbed three times near her home” in the Senegalese capital, according to a press release from the channel. She has been hospitalized, and her condition is said to be stable. The motive behind the attack is currently unknown.

As the host of the popular show “L’Invité de MNF,” where she often interviews political figures, Maimouna Ndour Faye is known for her outspokenness and sometimes controversial opinions. She has previously reported receiving death threats.

Images circulating on social media show the journalist lying on a stretcher, her clothes soaked in blood, with her hand on her stomach. In response to the attack, Senegalese President Macky Sall condemned the “cowardly and inexcusable act of violence,” emphasizing the need to protect and respect freedom of the press.

The opposition coalition and President Diomaye have also condemned the attack, calling it “brutal” and “heinous,” and urged the authorities to investigate the matter thoroughly. The profession has called for a demonstration in front of the 7TV premises on Friday afternoon.
