The Ministry of Lands and Regional Government requested the Assembly’s approval for Old Yundum, Busumbala, and Birkama North and South constituencies to become chieftaincy districts.
These new districts were created to better represent the diverse communities within the Busumbala constituency and ensure effective governance. Chief Touray’s coronation was a significant milestone in the implementation of this motion, as it solidified his position as the leader of one of these newly established districts.
The coronation ceremony of Chief Lamin Touray was a grand affair, with traditional music and dance performances filling the air with joy and excitement. The presence of senior government officials and heads of local government councils further emphasized the importance of this event and the recognition of Chief Touray’s leadership.
Chief Touray stood tall and proud, his ceremonial robes flowing, as he addressed the crowd gathered before him. It was a momentous occasion, marking the culmination of years of hard work and dedication to his community. As the cheers and applause echoed through the air, Chief Touray couldn’t help but feel a sense of awe at the magnitude of the task ahead. He recognized that leading these newly established districts would require him to navigate complex political landscapes and foster unity among diverse communities.
“It is a very, very historic day today, considering the fact that since the demarcation of the Kombos into three constituencies, I have been appointed as the first chief of this district. So I think it’s going to go down in the annals of history. My own father was the district chief for Kambo North before the demarcation for over 20 years. I couldn’t have predicted accepting this role so quickly, but I had no choice but to accept it because it was predetermined by the All-Powerful Allah.” he said.
Chief Lamin Touray, who is dedicated to bringing the people together, expressed optimism for the constituency’s sustainable future as well as the successful resolution of the land issues the area is currently facing.
“My greatest strength, in my opinion, would be a strategy of unification and unity because, in order to accomplish my goal of uniting the people you know, I believe I would have to turn to peaceful means of conflict resolution rather than going to court or performing other formalities. This, if I can escape it, is my small revolution” he concluded.
