Gambiaj.com – (Latriya, Gambia) – In a significant breakthrough, the Latriya Police have arrested a suspect and seized evidence connected to two separate robbery incidents that took place on January 1, 2025, along the Sukuta-Jabang Highway. The robberies, which targeted two victims in broad daylight, left both individuals injured and resulted in a combined loss of over D666,000.
The first incident occurred near the Jabang Forest, where a businessman from Jambur was violently attacked by armed assailants. The victim lost cash, electronics, and critical personal documents valued at D500,000. Shortly after, a couple from Busumbala was targeted near Salaji Forest, suffering a loss of D96,000 in cash. Both victims sustained injuries during the incidents, prompting immediate police action.
Following the robberies, the Criminal Investigation Department (CID) worked swiftly on intelligence, which led to the recovery of the vehicle used in the attacks, as well as the weapons involved and some of the stolen items.
While investigations are ongoing, authorities are urging the public to remain vigilant and report any suspicious activities that could contribute to the ongoing efforts to ensure public safety and bring the perpetrators to justice.
“This arrest is a result of the combined efforts of our officers and the support of the community. We urge everyone to stay alert and continue reporting any concerns, as public cooperation plays a key role in preventing such crimes,” a police spokesperson stated.
As investigations continue, the suspect remains in custody, and further details are expected to emerge in the coming days.
