Gambiaj.com – (BANJUL, The Gambia) – On September 26th, 2002, Le Joola, a government-owned Senegalese ferry, capsized off the coast of The Gambia, killing over 1800 people and leaving 64 survivors. It’s recognised as the second-worst non-wartime maritime disaster in world history, taking the lives of many more than the infamous Titanic.

This 2020 BBC documentary was coproduced with The Gambia Journal’s Editor-in-Chief Frederic Tendeng. It is a narration of the tragedy and its aftermath by survivors of the accident, families of the victims, eyewitnesses, and communities involved in the search, rescue, and burial operations.
