Gambiaj.com – (BANJUL) – Maersk, the Danish ocean carrier, has announced new peak season surcharges (PSS) for shipping from China, Hong Kong, and Taiwan to several African destinations.
Effective from 6 May, Maersk will implement the following PSS from China and Hong Kong to Senegal, Guinea, Mauritania, Gambia, Liberia, Sierra Leone, Cape Verde Island, and Mali. Additionally, effective from 25 May, Maersk will implement the same PSS from Taiwan to these destinations.
The peak season surcharges are as follows:
– All 20-foot containers: $1,000
– All 40-foot containers: $2,000
– 45-foot dry containers: $2,000
Moreover, Maersk will introduce new PSS on 13 May from China and Hong Kong to Nigeria, Burkina Faso, Benin, Ivory Coast, Ghana, Niger, and Togo. The new PSS will also apply from Taiwan to the same destinations, effective from 30 May.
These new surcharges come amidst ongoing challenges in the global shipping industry, including congestion at ports and disruptions to supply chains. Maersk’s decision to implement these PSS reflects the current market conditions and the increased costs associated with shipping to African destinations.
