Mamadi Doumbouya sworn in

Gambiaj.com – (CONAKRY, Guinea) – Mamadi Doumbouya was officially inaugurated as the President of the Republic of Guinea on Saturday, January 18, 2026, marking a pivotal transition in the nation’s political history.

Following his landslide victory in the September 28, 2025, elections, where he secured 86.72% of the vote, the former transition leader took his oath of office before the Supreme Court and an assembly of regional heads of state.

A Seven-Year Mandate for Reform

In a solemn ceremony filled with pageantry and high-level diplomacy, President Doumbouya swore “before God and the people of Guinea” to uphold the Constitution and protect the nation’s integrity. His new term, set for seven years, comes with a promise of “rigorous and exemplary” governance.

I measure the immense responsibility that the people of Guinea have entrusted to me,” Doumbouya stated, his voice filled with emotion. “This mandate is not a personal honor but a commitment to meet the governance challenges facing our country.”

“My Hand Remains Extended”

A central theme of the President’s inaugural address was national healing. Recognizing the deep political fractures that have defined Guinea in recent years, Doumbouya made a direct appeal to his opponents, including exiled leaders such as Cellou Dalein Diallo, Sidya Touré, and former President Alpha Condé.

A nation is not built on division, and prosperity is not built on hatred,” Doumbouya declared. “My hand remains extended to all the daughters and sons of Guinea. Let us continue to unite our forces, our intelligence, and our talents to build our country.”

Strengthening State Institutions

President Doumbouya emphasized that the era of transition is over, making way for a period of “demanding action.” He pledged to build credible institutions served by a new political culture rooted in competence and accountability.

The authority of the State will be strong because it will be exemplary,” he noted, adding that his administration would focus on justice and the “exclusive service of the general interest.”

African Solidarity

The inauguration was attended by several African heads of state and government, a presence Doumbouya described as a testament to “African solidarity” and a shared desire for a future founded on peace and prosperity.

As he begins his first official term as a democratically elected leader, Doumbouya faces the daunting task of transforming his military-to-civilian transition into a stable and inclusive democracy. He concluded his address with a rallying cry for the nation: “Let us stay united, let us stay standing, let us stay faithful to Guinea.”
