Gambiaj.com – (BANJUL) – The Piccadilly Police Post has arrested a 60-year-old man in connection with the alleged murder of Fatou Drammeh, a 17-year-old female student from Latrikunda Sabiji. The incident occurred on Friday, April 12, 2024, when the victim reportedly fell from the third floor of a building. Her body is currently at the Edward Francis Teaching Hospital mortuary.
According to reports, the victim was allegedly kept locked in a bedroom, which led her to attempt to escape by jumping, resulting in her tragic death. Fatou Drammeh was also said to be a victim of domestic violence, with a history of abuse. In July 2023, she was allegedly tortured by her sisters with a burning hot iron, who accused her of stealing D20,000. Despite denying the allegation, Fatou was subjected to severe abuse.
A neighbor who was visiting a sick relative in the area, discovered Fatou Drammeh’s situation and alerted the police. The sisters were arrested and detained at the Bundung Police Station, while Fatou was moved to the Shelter for Children in Bakoteh.
A relative of Fatou stated that she left the shelter in Bakoteh to return to her family on her own will, as she was not allowed to go out on her own by the shelter staff.
However, a social worker handling Fatou’s case confirmed that she was placed in the shelter by Bundung Police in 2023, and they were also responsible for returning her to the family.
The police have launched an investigation into the matter and are urging the public to report cases of domestic violence for proper handling.
