Gambiaj.com – (BRIKAMA, the Gambia) – On Monday, August 26, 2024, Alagie Saidy Faye appeared before Magistrate K.B. Sambou at the Brikama Magistrates’ Court, facing charges of obtaining money by false pretense. The charge relates to an incident in March 2023, in which Faye allegedly defrauded one Samba Bah of D130,000 under the pretext of selling a plot of land.

According to the indictment, Faye, residing in Brikama Jamisa, West Coast Region, misled Bah by claiming ownership of a 20 by 20-meter plot of land in Brikama Jamisa. Faye reportedly knew at the time that his claims were false.

Faye has been charged under Section 288 of the Criminal Code Cap 10:01, Volume 3 of the Laws of The Gambia, which deals with obtaining money by false pretense. However, he pleaded not guilty to the charge.

The prosecution, led by Deputy Superintendent Buteh Sawaneh, did not oppose bail for the accused but requested an adjournment to call their first witness.

In his ruling, Magistrate Sambou granted Faye bail in the sum of D150,000. The bail conditions include providing a Gambian surety who must deposit a valid ID card or passport.

The case has been adjourned until September 24, 2024, when the court will reconvene to hear the prosecution’s first witness.
