Mansea Beach Murderer

Gambiaj.com – (KANIFING) – Muhammed Barry, the accused in the Manse Beach murder case, has been remanded to the Mile Two Central Prison by Magistrate Ebrima Colley of the Kanifing Magistrate Court. The remand follows Magistrate Colley’s decision to transfer the case to the High Court due to its gravity.

The police, represented by Corporal Mariama Badjie, charged Barry with Murder under section 187 of the Criminal Code, alleging that he unlawfully caused the death of Sainey Jasseh with malice aforethought on April 25, 2024, at Senegambia Manse Beach in Kanifing Municipality.

During the proceedings, Corporal Badjie applied for the case to be transferred to the special criminal division, citing the potential life imprisonment or death sentence associated with the charge.

Magistrate Colley, after considering the application, agreed that the magistrate court lacked jurisdiction and ordered the transfer of the case to the special criminal court.

Additionally, Magistrate Colley ordered the remand of Muhammed Barry at Mile 2 Central Prison pending the hearing at the High Court.

The accused will remain in custody until the High Court conducts further proceedings in the case.
