Mansour Faye Accuses Sonko of Deception, Calls for Ramadan Repentance

Gambiaj.com – (Dakar, Senegal) – Former Minister and ex-Mayor of Saint-Louis, Mansour Faye, has launched a scathing attack on Prime Minister Ousmane Sonko, accusing him of building his political career on “fabrications” and “slander.” In a strongly worded public note released on Tuesday, March 4, 2025, amid the holy month of Ramadan, Faye urged Sonko to use the period of repentance to apologize to both the Senegalese people and himself.

Faye, a close ally of former President Macky Sall, alleged that Sonko had manipulated citizens to gain power, deceiving them with “fallacious promises” that were never fulfilled. He claimed that Sonko’s primary political target had always been the Macky Sall administration, which, according to Faye, suffered from relentless attacks based on misinformation.

In his statement, Faye also dismissed the recent report by the Court of Auditors, which had pointed to financial mismanagement in previous administrations. He described the document as “false” and lacking “legal value,” arguing that it would never be presented to Senegal’s financial partners.

Personally implicated in allegations of financial misconduct—particularly in relation to the 750-billion FCFA ten-year flooding program and the SONUES-SEN’EAU affermage contract—Faye rejected all accusations, labeling them as outright lies. “Sonko will never prove these supposed facts, despite all his institutional power,” he asserted.

In a defiant tone, Faye challenged Sonko to move beyond “futile threats” and offer a public apology instead. He concluded his statement by predicting the “premature end” of what he described as Sonko’s “dictatorial adventure,” invoking the blessings of Ramadan as a moment for truth and repentance.

His remarks come at a time of heightened political tension in Senegal, as Prime Minister Sonko continues to face resistance from opposition figures aligned with the previous administration. Whether Sonko will respond to Faye’s challenge remains to be seen.
