Gambiaj.com – NOUAKCHOTT, Mauritania) – Incumbent Mauritanian president, Mohamed Ould Ghazouani, has been re-elected with 56.12% of the votes in the recent presidential election held on June 29, according to provisional results announced today by the president of the electoral commission, Dah Abdeljellil.

Ghazouani, who has led the nation since 2019, centered his campaign on aiding the most deprived and focusing on youth initiatives. His administration has committed to significant projects aimed at bolstering the country’s infrastructure and energy sectors.

One of Ghazouani’s key promises includes the construction of a power plant powered by natural gas from the Greater Tortue Ahmeyin (GTA) offshore gas project. This project, a collaborative effort with Senegal, is poised to start production by the end of the year and is expected to significantly boost the region’s energy resources.

In addition to the natural gas initiative, Ghazouani has pledged to invest heavily in renewable energy. This commitment aligns with global trends towards sustainable energy solutions and is aimed at reducing Mauritania’s reliance on fossil fuels. The development of the renewable energy sector is also seen as a strategic move to create jobs and stimulate economic growth.

Furthermore, Ghazouani’s administration plans to expand the country’s mining sector, with a focus on gold, uranium, and iron. This expansion is anticipated to attract foreign investment and increase Mauritania’s exports, thereby enhancing the nation’s economic stability.

Ghazouani’s re-election marks a continuation of his policies and projects aimed at economic development and social welfare. As he prepares for his new term, the international community and local stakeholders will be closely watching the implementation of his ambitious plans.
