Gambiaj.com – (KANIFING) – Dr. Malick Njie, a medical doctor, appeared before the Kanifing Magistrates Court on charges of indecent assault, following allegations that he inappropriately touched a woman in Bakau.
Dr. Njie faces charges under Section 126 of the Criminal Code, which states that anyone who unlawfully and indecently assaults a woman or girl is guilty of a misdemeanor and could face up to two years in prison if convicted.
Inspector Baba Jallow represented the Inspector General of Police, while Counsel Sylva defended the accused. According to the charge sheet, the incident allegedly occurred on December 14, 2023. Dr. Njie is accused of touching the woman’s buttocks, rubbing her back, and grabbing her waist. He has pleaded not guilty to the charges.
Principal Magistrate Sallah Mbye granted Dr. Njie bail set at One Hundred Thousand Dalasi (D100,000), or alternatively, he must provide one Gambian surety. The court has scheduled the hearing for June 10, 2024.
