Gambiaj.com – (Banjul, The Gambia) – Dr. Ismaila Ceesay, the Minister of Information, Media and Broadcasting Services, has publicly accused Amadou Kora, also known as Manding King and an alleged member of the United Democratic Party (UDP), of involvement in the sale of former President Yahya Jammeh’s assets. Theministerr, during his weekly appearance on West Coast Radio’s “Coffee Time With Peter Gomez” on Tuesday, suggested that Kora must be held accountable for his role in the transactions, particularly concerning the sale of cattle.
Responding to a listener’s query, Dr. Ceesay stated, “The Manding King should be asked about the issue of the cows. He was there when these things were sold; he was giving prices, and we came to understand that he is a UDP guy from Basse and was there when the cows were bought.” The minister further alleged that Amadou Kora was instrumental in determining the prices of the cattle.
Dr. Ceesay anticipates that a parliamentary inquiry, triggered by a youth pressure group, will “unearth unexpected revelations” regarding the sale of these assets. He reiterated the government’s stance that the central government was not involved in the sale of cars, cows, and tractors, attributing the sales solely to the Janneh Commission, which he described as an independent institution with a legal mandate at the time.
However, the minister affirmed the government’s commitment to accountability, declaring, “Now we are going to hold them accountable as a government; that’s why we are setting up the inquiry, and anybody who is found wanting of any wrongdoing in this case will face the full force of the law.”
According to Dr. Ceesay, while the Janneh Commission sold a number of cars and tractors, the Sheriff Division at the High Court was responsible for the sale of the cows. He expressed optimism that the upcoming parliamentary inquiry will provide a clearer understanding of “who sold what, how, and when, and who bought the cattle.”
The Minister also provided an update on the vehicles seized from Jammeh, stating that all but eleven have been sold. The remaining eleven vehicles are currently located at State House and Kanifing Garage, with some, including Land Cruisers and a Hummer, reportedly facing issues.
