MoBSE Clarifies GABECE Delay, Celebrates Improved 2024 Results and Stakeholder Efforts

GABECE results

Gambiaj.com – (BANJUL, The Gambia) – The Permanent Secretary at the Ministry of Basic and Secondary Education (MoBSE), Louis Moses Mendy, has dispelled rumors that the delayed release of this year’s results was due to unpaid MoBSE arrears with the West African Examination Council (WAEC). “WAEC operates independently in conducting and releasing examination results, strictly adhering to their own work plan,” Mendy clarified, emphasizing that the ministry does not interfere with WAEC’s timetable. He explained that such independence ensures the authenticity and objectivity of students’ academic performances.

PS Mendy announced a significant improvement in the 2024 Gambia Basic Education Certificate Examination (GABECE) results, attributing the success to the dedication and collaborative efforts of teachers, school administrators, parents, and students. At the official results announcement, Permanent Secretary Louis Moses Mendy congratulated all education stakeholders for their commitment to raising academic standards across the country.

Andrew Gomez, Director of Performance, Monitoring, and Evaluation at MoBSE, shared insights into this year’s examination numbers, revealing that 30,419 candidates registered for the 2024 GABECE, with results processed for 29,936 students, representing 98.4% of total candidates. A small number—483 candidates—have pending scores due to missing Continuous Assessment Scores (CASS) or other unresolved issues, and results for 12 candidates are being withheld pending further investigation by WAEC.

In a press release, the MoBSE assured the public that a comprehensive performance analysis of the key subject areas will be shared in forthcoming updates, aiming to provide more in-depth insights into this year’s academic gains and areas for continued improvement.
