Gambiaj.com – (Rabat, Morocco) – The Mohammed VI University Hospital Centre (CHU) in Agadir is set to become a major academic and medical hub in the Souss-Massa region, supporting improved healthcare delivery and advanced professional training, in line with the High Instructions of His Majesty King Mohammed VI.
The new hospital, built near the Faculty of Medicine and Pharmacy of Agadir, has a capacity of 867 beds and spans a 30-hectare site with 127,000 square meters of covered space. The project required an investment of 3.1 billion dirhams.
Designed to offer modern medical services and specialized care, the CHU integrates advanced technology and sustainable infrastructure, including energy-efficient systems and photovoltaic panels.
As a tertiary-level public health institution, it is expected to serve as a key center for care, teaching, biomedical research, innovation, and public health services.
The facility features a comprehensive Mother-and-Child department equipped with neonatal intensive care, pediatric surgery, and emergency units, ensuring integrated and continuous care. A medico-surgical division houses cutting-edge medical and surgical wards supported by modern equipment.
One of the hospital’s flagship assets is its 42-bed cardiology center, including 20 intensive care beds.
The unit is equipped with two catheterization rooms, a rhythmology suite, and full cardiac rehabilitation services, enabling highly specialized treatment for coronary and heart rhythm disorders. International-standard equipment will support angioplasty, electrophysiology procedures, and high-resolution intravascular imaging.

The CHU is also the first hospital in Africa to be equipped with the “Revo I” surgical robot, allowing ultra-precise, minimally invasive procedures with high-definition 3D visualization.
Its radiology center includes two MRI scanners—one of which features dedicated cardiac capabilities—three CT scanners, digital operating tables, and mammography units.
The facility includes 19 operating rooms, a five-room emergency surgical block, a specialized burn treatment theater, intensive care units, and a medical simulation training system.
Patient safety is further strengthened by a fully automated sterilization center and a smart central pharmacy equipped with a robotic medication dispensing system, a first at the regional level.
To streamline medical care, the hospital is fully integrated into Morocco’s digital Hospital Information System, allowing medical staff to securely access shared electronic health records using a patient card or digital bracelet.
This system forms part of the broader national healthcare reform strategy aimed at improving efficiency, coordination, and response times.
The establishment of CHU Mohammed VI in Agadir aligns with the city’s Urban Development Program, which prioritizes strengthening healthcare services.
Alongside the medical faculty, the hospital is expected to support the emergence of a leading regional center for medical excellence and training in Souss-Massa.
