Morocco and The Gambia Forge Partnership to Advance Social Welfare and Protect Vulnerable Groups

(RABAT, Morocco) – On Tuesday, Morocco and The Gambia signed a landmark cooperation agreement designed to promote and protect the rights of women, children, and individuals in vulnerable situations. The ceremony, held in Rabat, marked a significant step towards enhancing social welfare initiatives between the two nations.

The agreement, aimed at fostering expertise exchange and collaborative programs, was officiated by Aawatif Hayar, Morocco’s Minister of Solidarity, Social Integration, and Family, and Fatou Sanyang Kinteh, Gambia’s Minister of Women’s Affairs, Children, and Social Welfare. This new framework emphasizes training initiatives in the social action sector, with a particular focus on the professionalization of social work.

Minister Hayar underscored Morocco’s achievements in social welfare, highlighting the professionalization of social work as a key area of progress. She emphasized that the agreement includes various programs targeting people with disabilities, the elderly, and children, with plans for joint implementation.

A central theme during the discussions between the ministers was the economic empowerment of women. Hayar, in a press statement, noted the importance of strengthening cooperation in this area, stating that it was a crucial focus of the new agreement.

Minister Kinteh expressed her country’s eagerness to benefit from Morocco’s extensive experience in promoting the rights of women and children, as well as in advancing social inclusion. She pointed out that both countries face similar challenges regarding issues affecting women, children, the elderly, and people with special needs. Kinteh expressed her hope that the cooperation between The Gambia and Morocco would be strengthened to promote several initiatives in these areas.

The talks between the two officials also focused on Morocco’s progress in advancing women and children’s rights, promoting universal health insurance, and reinforcing social protection. The collaboration is expected to bring significant benefits to both countries, enhancing their efforts to support and protect vulnerable groups in society.
