Gambiaj.com – (DAKAR, Senegal) – The case of the double murder in Pikine Technopole continues to unveil its grim details. Mamadou Lamine Diao, known as “Modou Lo,” was arrested by the gendarmes of Touba’s special brigade during the Magal and has now confessed to killing dancer Aziz Dabala and Boubacar Gano, also known as “Waly,” by himself.
In a harrowing confession, Diao, a mason from Guinaw Rail, revealed his motives to investigators. “Aziz Dabala had invited me several times for a private session,” he recounted. “I always refused.” However, financial pressures eventually led him to Dabala’s apartment last Sunday. “My mother had a prescription that cost 50,000 CFA francs,” Diao explained. “Aziz gave me money for transportation so I would sleep with him. When I went to his place, I had no intention of killing him.”
Once inside, Diao threatened Dabala with a knife, demanding money. “I refused to engage in unnatural relations with him,” Diao stated. “I told Aziz that if he didn’t give me money, I would slander him. I brandished my knife to threaten him.” He then admitted to killing Dabala before proceeding to the room of his nephew, Boubacar Gano. “I found Boubacar wearing headphones. I let him know that he was a homosexual before killing him,” Diao continued, showing no remorse for his actions.
Diao claimed that he disposed of Dabala’s phone in a canal and sold Gano’s for 75,000 CFA francs at the Ocass market.
The investigation took a critical turn when officers from the Pikine police station arrived at the crime scene. They found Dabala’s body covered with a sheet, with all bedroom and kitchen doors locked, leading them to suspect those close to the deceased. The police also discovered lubricants and traces of Indian hemp in the apartment.
Phone records further incriminated Diao, showing frequent communication with Dabala, and identifying him as the primary suspect. His attempt to avoid detection by turning off his phone failed when he inserted his SIM card into Gano’s phone.
On August 21, 2024, Diao, accompanied by his paternal uncle Ousseynou Diao, attended the grand Magal of Touba. According to sources, Mamadou had confided his crimes to his uncle, who, fearing for his life, reported him to the authorities. The special brigade of the religious city arrested Diao, who was later taken to Dakar along with his uncle. Diao has since been brought before the police in Guinaw Rail for further questioning.
