Murder of Lamarana Jallow – Kumba Sinyan Set to Open Defense

Kumba Sinyan

Kumba Sinyan is set to begin presenting her defense in the murder case where she stands accused of killing her boyfriend, Lamarana Jallow. Sinyan faces a single count of murder, with the prosecution alleging that she fatally wounded Jallow by cutting his stomach with a razor blade.

The prosecution’s case reached a pivotal moment as they called their final witness, PW10, a medical doctor who conducted the post-mortem examination of Jallow’s body. The doctor, who works at the Edward Francis Teaching Hospital as a teacher and pathologist, testified that he conducted both internal and external examinations to determine the cause of Jallow’s death. He confirmed that his findings were summarized in a report, which was presented in court and admitted into evidence without objection.

During the examination, the doctor discovered a piece of cloth measuring 18×20 in size in Jallow’s mouth, as well as internal injuries, including a large amount of blood around his heart and a protruding small intestine due to a stomach wound.

When questioned about the timing of the examination in relation to Jallow’s death, the doctor stated that it took place 2 and a half days after his passing. He also explained that, due to the volume of examinations he conducts, reports are only signed upon request, and international testing standards may result in delays of up to 3 months for results.

Following the cross-examination by defense counsel Sagarr, during which no new information was revealed, counsel Mame Sanyang announced that the prosecution intended to close its case.

The court then adjourned proceedings to allow the defense to prepare their case, with the next hearing scheduled for the 15th, 24th, and 25th of April 2024.
