Gambiaj.com – (Schopfheim), Germany – A 28-year-old Gambian asylum seeker, identified as Ebrima T., was arrested last Wednesday in Schopfheim, Lörrach district, after roaming the streets naked and resisting police officers attempting to detain him. Three officers sustained minor injuries during the arrest.
Videos circulating online show the man kneeling in the middle of the road near the Schopfheim police station, engaging in Muslim prayers, disrupting traffic. Police had received multiple emergency calls at around 2:35 p.m. reporting a naked Black man walking through the city center in a highly noticeable manner.
According to Schopfheim police reports, Ebrima T. had earlier threatened a neighbor with a knife in a house on Entegaststraße before fleeing towards the town center. Officers tracked him down near the police station, where he initially complied but later resisted forcefully when they attempted to take him into custody.
Authorities classified his behavior as a “mental state of emergency,” and medical personnel recommended his admission to a psychiatric hospital. However, upon being transferred from his detention cell for transport, Ebrima T. violently resisted, injuring three officers in the process. The police officers sustained abrasions and bruises but were able to continue their duties.
Following a struggle, the Gambian was eventually transported to a psychiatric hospital under police escort. He is now under investigation for multiple charges, including threats, coercion, resisting arrest, and bodily harm.
Police continue to investigate the full circumstances surrounding the incident, including whether his actions were influenced by mental health conditions.
