National Assembly Business Committee Conducts Study Tour In Malawi

Gambiaj.com—(LILONGWE, Malawi) – The Assembly Business Committee of The Gambia’s National Assembly is currently undertaking a study tour in Malawi, an initiative aimed at strengthening parliamentary cooperation and reviewing legislative procedures.

The delegation is led by the Speaker of the National Assembly, Fabakary Tombong Jatta, and accompanied by the Clerk of the National Assembly, Kalipha Mbaye. The team arrived in Lilongwe on Sunday ahead of a series of official engagements.

The tour commenced on Monday, 16 February 2026, with a courtesy call on the Speaker of Malawi’s Parliament, Sameer Suleman. Discussions during the meeting focused on parliamentary operations, committee functions, and the exchange of institutional experiences between the two legislatures.

The Gambian delegation also held separate meetings with Malawi’s Deputy Speaker and Clerk of Parliament. According to officials, the engagements centered on administrative procedures and internal systems that support the effective functioning of parliament.

In a statement issued during the visit, members of the Gambian delegation said the study tour provides an important opportunity to observe and learn from Malawi’s parliamentary practices.

This exchange offers a vital opportunity to align our administrative procedures and adopt institutional best practices that have proven successful here in Malawi,” the committee stated.

The study tour is expected to continue throughout the week, with both sides expressing interest in strengthening cooperation and deepening institutional collaboration between their respective parliaments.
