New Banjul Airport Terminal Project – Government Launch Bid

Yundum airport

To improve Yundum International Airport’s technological capabilities and competitiveness, the Gambia government plans to build a new airport terminal. All associated auxiliary facilities will be built alongside the new terminal through a public-private partnership.

According to the Ministry of Transport Works and Infrastructure, this project has been started in response to the substantial rise in demand for air travel, which has caused congestion in the passenger terminal building and on the aircraft apron. Additionally, other connected infrastructure, including the runway, needs to be restored.

Given these conditions, the Government of The Gambia decided that the Banjul International Airport needed new terminal construction as well as associated ancillary facilities in order to meet international safety and security standards, improve operational effectiveness, and maintain its competitiveness with other regional international airports.

A public-private partnership (“PPP”) will oversee the operation of this new airport terminal project. The Ministry of Transport Works and Infrastructure is the contracting authority, and the partner is responsible for design, construction, financing, operation, maintenance, and transfer.

A bid is now being considered for the concession of a new airport terminal along with other auxiliary facilities.
