Gambiaj.com – (Sanyang, The Gambia) – Police have launched an investigation into a suspected case of baby dumping after a newborn was discovered abandoned on Thursday in a bushy area near Sanyang Village in the West Coast Region.
According to a police report, the infant was found wrapped in cloth and placed under a tree. The discovery was made by a passerby, who immediately alerted the authorities.
Upon arrival at the scene, police also recovered a handwritten note believed to be connected to the incident. The contents of the note have not been disclosed, but authorities say it could provide critical leads as the investigation progresses.
The baby was promptly transported to the Sanyang Health Centre for medical evaluation and care. Medical staff have since confirmed that the newborn is in stable condition.
Police are working in collaboration with the Child Welfare Unit to ensure the infant receives proper protection and support moving forward.
“This is a deeply concerning case, and we are treating it with the utmost urgency,” a police source said. “Our priority right now is the health and safety of the baby, while we pursue every lead to identify those responsible.”
Authorities are urging anyone with information about the case to come forward as investigations continue.
