Gambiaj.com – (Abuja, Nigeria) – The Nigeria Technical Aid Corps (NTAC) has deployed 22 new volunteers to The Gambia as part of its ongoing mission to share professional expertise across developing nations. The deployment follows the return of 15 Nigerian volunteers who successfully completed their two-year assignments in the West African country.
The latest deployment, which took place on Friday during a send-off and reception ceremony in Abuja, brings the total number of Nigerian professionals deployed to 11 countries over the past two years to 300.
Since its inception in 1987, NTAC has sent more than 10,000 volunteers to 40 countries across Africa, the Caribbean, and the Pacific.
NTAC Director General Hon. Yusuf Buba Yakub, speaking at the event, noted that the outgoing volunteers were mainly drawn from academia and would be posted to the University of The Gambia, continuing the support rendered by their predecessors.
“In the last two years, we have deployed over 300 volunteers to 11 countries. Just yesterday, we deployed more to Grenada. Today, we received 15 from Gambia, and this morning, 22 are heading back there,” Yakub said.
He described NTAC as a critical instrument of Nigeria’s soft power diplomacy, helping to improve the country’s global standing through capacity building and international solidarity.
“Since 1987, NTAC has served as a vehicle for sharing Nigeria’s professional expertise with other nations. It projects our values, strengthens international partnerships, and provides our youth with opportunities to serve and grow,” he said.
Yakub also emphasized his vision for the program to play a greater role in addressing unemployment in Nigeria while reinforcing the positive image the country enjoys as a result of the service of its professionals abroad.
The NTAC program continues to position Nigeria as a leader in South-South cooperation, contributing to human capital development and international goodwill across partner nations.
