Gambiaj.com – (BANJUL, The Gambia) – The Drug Law Enforcement Agency, The Gambia (DLEAG), has once again apprehended Lamin Jarju, also known as Lamin Sarjoh, a notorious drug dealer, for possession of thirty-six bundles of suspected cannabis sativa. The arrest was made following a tip-off, and the drugs were reportedly concealed in two bags placed in the trunk of an ash-colored BMW vehicle with registration number KM 7044 E.
Ousman Saidybah, the spokesperson for DLEAG, confirmed the arrest and provided further details on Jarju’s extensive criminal history. “Records of the Agency show that Lamin Jarju has been arrested multiple times for drug-related offenses,” Saidybah stated. “In some of those cases, he was apprehended while on bail and on trial for similar offenses. Despite these legal interventions, he continued his illicit activities, endangering public security and safety.”
This latest arrest adds to a long list of offenses committed by Jarju. On February 7, 2022, one Malang Beyai was arrested with thirty-five big bundles of suspected cannabis hidden in a vehicle owned by Jarju. Although Beyai was convicted, the vehicle was returned to Jarju, who claimed ignorance of its use in drug trafficking. However, on May 23, 2022, Jarju was again arrested in Kololi New Road with twenty-one bundles of suspected cannabis in the back boot of a BMW with registration number BJL 8611 T.
Saidybah also recalled an incident on October 20, 2020, where Jarju recklessly sped away from a checkpoint, endangering the lives of officers and the public. During that incident, he was driving a Mercedes Benz C Class with registration number BJL 8063 and refused to stop despite repeated calls from the officers.
For his repeated offenses, Jarju was previously fined D100,000 for a drug trafficking-related offense in October 2020. He was also forced to forfeit D89,700, suspected to be proceeds from drug trafficking, along with a Mercedes Benz BJL 1677 Q.
“The court had given Lamin Jarju opportunities to reform and prove himself as a responsible member of society,” Saidybah lamented. “However, his continuous arrests even after that judgment clearly show that he is not ready to change his conduct and behavior.”
The DLEAG spokesperson vowed that the agency would not relent in its efforts to combat drug trafficking, emphasizing their commitment to executing their mandate without fear or favor.
