Gambia.com – (BANJUL, The Gambia) – Nyima Sillah, a journalist with The Voice Newspaper, has achieved a milestone in her burgeoning career, being named the second runner-up in the 2024 Africa Media Development Foundation (AMDF) Journalist of the Year Award in the print category.
The announcement was made during the 8th Africa Conference on Development Journalism (ACDJ2024), held in Kaduna, Nigeria, on Thursday. The prestigious award recognizes excellence in journalism across the continent, and Sillah’s accolade highlights the growing global prominence of Gambian media professionals.
In the print category, Sillah shared the honors with Segun Odunayo of The Punch Newspaper and Taiwo Alimi of The Nation Newspaper, both hailing from Nigeria. Her recognition is a testament to the quality of her reporting, which has brought attention to pressing social and political issues in The Gambia and beyond.
Sekyen Dadik, the executive director of AMDF, lauded the finalists for their exceptional contributions to journalism, emphasizing the vital role their work plays in fostering accountability and addressing challenges facing Africa.
