Gambiaj.com – (BANJUL) – The Organization of Islamic Cooperation (OIC) has strongly denounced the recurrent cases of Holy Quran burning in a number of European nations. The OIC also urged governments to adopt legal and policy measures to fight religious intolerance, hate crimes, negative stereotyping, incitement to violence, and violence against individuals based on their religion or belief, in a statement issued as part of the Banjul proclamation.
The OIC Banjul Summit emphasized that the best approach to combat racism, prejudice, religious hatred, and Islamophobia is to promote tolerance, communication, and collaboration among civilizations, religions, cultures, and peoples.
The statement, which was released at the end of the OIC Standing Committee for Economic and Commercial Cooperation (COMCEC) 15th Session, also vehemently denounced racism, xenophobia, Islamophobia, violence, extremism that incites violence, and intolerance in all its manifestations.
Furthermore, the OIC emphasized the importance of fostering tolerance, dialogue, and cooperation among civilizations, religions, cultures, and peoples as the most effective way to address the scourges of racism, discrimination, religious hatred, and Islamophobia.
The OIC’s statement comes at a time when Islamophobic incidents are on the rise in various parts of the world, including Europe, where the burning of the Quran has been a particularly inflammatory act. The organization’s call for action reflects its commitment to promoting peace, understanding, and mutual respect among all peoples and nations.
