The OIC Gambia secretariat has abruptly terminated its contract with Mankajang, a local media outlet, following a video in which the proprietor criticized a poorly written State House congratulatory message from President Adama Barrow to the president-elect of Senegal. In the video, the proprietor highlighted an error in the date, which was written as “52 March” instead of “25th March.”
While the secretariat has not provided an official explanation for the termination, Mankajang stated on his Facebook page that he received information from sources close to the NPP (National People’s Party) indicating that his contract was terminated due to the video.
Mankajang’s outspoken nature and criticism of the government appear to have played a role in the termination of his contract.
Despite this setback, he expressed gratitude for the support he received and announced that he had signed a new contract with Kaira Consultancy, which offers double the amount he received from OIC. “Just after OIC terminated my contract earlier today, I am happy to inform you all that I have just signed another contract with Kaira Consultancy that doubles the D20,000 offered by OIC. Thank you all for the words of encouragement, Allah is great and in control of everything.” he posted on his Facebook feed.
The support from his followers has been overwhelming, with many commending his courage and determination to continue speaking truth to power.
Mankajang says that he remains committed to holding those in authority accountable and fighting for justice and transparency.
