Gambiaj.com – (BANJUL) – President Bassirou Diomaye Faye, the recently inaugurated President of the Republic of Senegal, is set to embark on his first state visit to The Gambia on Saturday, April 20th, 2024. This visit comes in the wake of President Faye’s decisive victory in the Senegalese presidential elections, where he secured a significant mandate with 54.28% of the vote.
President Faye, at the age of 44, has made history as Senegal’s youngest head of state, marking a new era in the country’s leadership. His victory, with a commanding majority, reflects the confidence and support he enjoys from the Senegalese electorate.
During his visit to The Gambia, President Faye is expected to meet with Gambian President Adama Barrow to discuss bilateral relations and explore areas of cooperation between the two neighboring countries. The visit is also seen as an opportunity to strengthen strategic, diplomatic, and economic ties between Senegal and The Gambia.
In addition to his bilateral engagements, President Faye is anticipated to participate in the upcoming Organization of Islamic Cooperation (OIC) summit scheduled for May 4th, 2024, in The Gambia. This summit provides a platform for Islamic countries to discuss and address common challenges and opportunities, further enhancing Senegal’s engagement with the global Islamic community.
The visit of President Faye to The Gambia holds significant promise for the future of Senegambian relations. It is expected to deepen cooperation and collaboration between the two countries, paving the way for enhanced economic growth and development in the region.
