Gambiaj.com – (BANJUL, The Gambia) – The Gambia Armed Forces has confirmed that soldiers from the State Guards Battalion stationed in Mankamang Kunda, the native village of President Adama Barrow, were involved in a fatal road traffic accident on Thursday, August 15, 2024.
The incident occurred near Bakadaji and Sareh Sambel in the Upper River Region when the vehicle, marked SG00060, collided with a commercial vehicle and somersaulted. The accident tragically claimed the life of Corporal Wattara Lamin and left three other soldiers injured. The wounded soldiers were immediately transported to the Basse Medical Facility for treatment.
President Adama Barrow expressed his deep sorrow over the incident, extending condolences to the bereaved family and well wishes to the injured soldiers. “I am deeply saddened to hear terrible news from the State Guards Battalion. I offer my sincere condolences to the family and loved ones of the fallen soldier, Corporal Wattara Lamin, killed in a car accident today. My heartfelt sympathy to those injured in this tragic accident, and wishing them a speedy recovery. As we mourn this tragic loss, I sincerely advise all drivers to be cautious while driving,” the president said on his official Facebook page.
