The Special Task Force Against Illegal Encroachment of Permanent and Temporary Structures on Public Spaces, known as ‘Operation Clear the Roads,’ is set to resume operations on April 15, 2024. This decision comes following the expiration of the government’s moratorium, with the task force aiming to ensure that public spaces remain free of unauthorized structures that hinder pedestrian and vehicular traffic.
The task force, established to uphold regulations and maintain the safety and accessibility of public areas, will be working diligently to identify and remove any illegal encroachments.
According to the National Road Authority, this move underscores the government’s commitment to protecting public spaces for the benefit of the community.
Speaking recently at a workshop, Mr Ousman Sanyang, Managing Director of the National Roads Authority (NRA) who just returned from a benchmarking study tour to Rwanda and Namibia noted that President Barrow has a vision for the country in terms of road infrastructure, noting that the Gambian leader is very passionate about road building which the NRA will support.
Authorities have therefore urged the public to cooperate with the task force during the exercise, emphasizing that it aims to enhance public safety, public health, and infrastructure quality.
Additionally, members of the business community are reminded to clean up any debris that has accumulated during the period of the exercise to support the efforts of ‘Operation Clear the Roads.’
