Gambiaj.com – (LONDON, UK) – Gambian-born and UK-raised rapper Pa Salieu has made a powerful comeback with his second project, Afrikan Alien. This 11-track mixtape seamlessly blends afrobeats, UK rap, and R&B, showcasing Salieu’s artistic evolution and personal growth.
Reflecting on his recent two-and-a-half-year imprisonment, which concluded in the fall of 2024, Salieu shared, “I refuse to be broken down. Prison taught me that bitterness won’t solve anything. Acceptance of my situation led to my personal growth.” He emphasized the importance of resilience, stating, “There’s going to be plenty of bad times in our lives. We just need to stay prepared and know that there’ll be better times ahead.”
Afrikan Alien has garnered critical acclaim for its introspective lyrics and innovative sound. In a recent interview, Salieu delved into his musical influences, highlighting the impact of his aunt, a folk singer known as Auntie Chuche, and the traditional drumming of Gambian masquerades. He reminisced, “Masquerades in Gambia as well. Their drum, the sabar, was my first ear to music—the djembe drum.”
Discussing his artistic philosophy, Salieu emphasized the responsibility artists have in shaping culture. “There’s a meaning we’re pushing. Everyone’s pushing a future that’s by force. You’re influencing whether you like it or not,” he noted. He aspires to be remembered for his contributions, stating, “I want to be remembered as having done my bit. Music is an outlet, and it’s all about how I use it.”
Pa Salieu said he would have pursued a career in music, MMA, or architecture, despite not being a heavyweight champion. “I’d be a heavyweight champion. I’m not capping [laughs]; I loved MMA back in the day. I always wanted to be an architect [too], with the design technology part. I think I would’ve gone into that as well.“
Afrikan Alien is now available via Warner Music UK Limited. Fans and new listeners alike are invited to experience this compelling blend of personal narrative and musical innovation.
