Gambiaj.com – (BANJUL) – Riyad al-Maliki, President Mahmoud Abbas’s advisor on international affairs, delivered a passionate speech at the 15th Organization of Islamic Cooperation (OIC) Summit in Banjul, Gambia, accusing Israel of carrying out a “vicious and horrific genocide” against the Palestinian people.
Speaking at the 15th Organization of Islamic Cooperation Summit in Banjul, Gambia, on behalf of President Abbas, al-Maliki stressed that the current Israeli genocide is the most recent chapter in the 75-year-old Nakba against the Palestinian people.
Al-Maliki noted that “for nearly seven months, Israel has intensified its atrocities against the Palestinian people in all regions, including its systematic colonization and displacement campaign in the occupied West Bank and, particularly, in Jerusalem.”
He pointed out that “Israel’s continuation of these crimes is facilitated by the military, financial, and political support it receives from complicit states, which have chosen to collude in genocide rather than defend universal human rights and the international rules-based order.”
“For over six months,” al-Maliki continued, “the world has watched as Israel relentlessly dismantles our shared humanity and the principles of the international order through its genocidal campaign against the Palestinian people.”
Al-Maliki urged the Organization of Islamic Cooperation’s member nations to step up their efforts to put an end to the genocide that is now taking place in Gaza. He also urged them to hold Israel responsible for its persistent assault against the Palestinian people.
He conveyed the gratitude of the Palestinian people for the positions adopted by nations opposing this heinous aggression, such as the Republic of South Africa, which brought a case against Israel before the International Court of Justice, which resulted in the ICC issuing two sets of interim measures to stop the genocide in Gaza. He emphasized how crucial it is that they be put into practice.
Al-Maliki also commended Nicaragua for filing a case against Germany for complicity in the genocide, emphasizing the significance of joint efforts by member states to halt the ongoing genocide in Gaza and ensure accountability for Israel, the occupying power.
