Gambiaj.com – (BANJUL) – Professor Gabriel Ogun, a pathologist at the Edward Francis Small Teaching Hospital in Banjul, testified in the High Court presided over by Justice Ebrima Jaiteh, confirming that two Police Intervention Unit (PIU) officers, Pateh Jallow and Sang J. Gomez, died from gunshot wounds.
During cross-examination by defence lawyer Lamin J. Darbo in the murder trial involving Ousainou Bojang and Amie Bojang, Professor Ogun stated that Pateh Jallow was killed by one bullet, while Sang Gomez was killed by another, both with high velocity.
Although no bullets were found inside their bodies, Professor Ogun explained that the bullets entered through the officers’ anterior chest cavity and exited through the posterior chest cavity, leaving entry and exit openings.
Detailing the injuries, Professor Ogun said Pateh Jallow was shot above his left nipple, while Sang Gomez was shot below his left nipple. He clarified that the type of gun used bullets and not cartridges, indicating a close-range attack.
The cause of death for Pateh Jallow was identified as massive bleeding into the chest cavity, while Sang Gomez succumbed to massive bleeding into the abdominal cavity. Both officers were pronounced dead at Ndeban Clinic in Bakau, with post-mortem examinations conducted at EFSTH in Banjul.
The High Court admitted two copies of medical certificates for Pateh Jallow and Sang Gomez, dated September 14, 2023, into evidence. The hearing continues as the trial progresses.
