Gambiaj.com – (BANJUL, The Gambia) – Police in Bundung have arrested Lamarana Barry, popularly known as “General Barry,” in connection with a motorbike accident that claimed the life of a young lady and fruit vendor, Tairu Barry, earlier this year.

According to police sources, Barry was taken into custody early Monday morning, September 8, 2025, following a tip-off. He is currently detained at Bundung Police Station and is said to be cooperating with investigators to determine the full circumstances surrounding the incident.

The case dates back to June 20, 2025, when Tairu reportedly fell from Barry’s motorbike near Nusrat Junction. She was admitted to the hospital with serious injuries but later succumbed.

Police said Barry disappeared soon after the accident, sparking suspicions and mounting calls from the victim’s family for justice.

Tairu, who sold fruits at the old Wellingara Cinema, was said to have been involved in a relationship with Barry, a well-known music promoter who frequently invites Guinean musicians to perform in The Gambia.

Her relatives previously told Taranga FM’s Mariama Jallow that they had tried to distance her from him but were unsuccessful.

Rumors continue to circulate about the circumstances that led to Tairu falling off the bike, though no official explanation has been confirmed.

The Gambia Police Force, in a statement, assured the public of its commitment to pursuing justice in the case, stressing that “any perpetrator will be held accountable.”
