Gambiaj.com – (BANJUL, The Gambia) – The Police Anti-Crime Unit in Brufut on Tuesday, September 9, 2025, arrested Lamin Sawo, a 38-year-old Gambian businessman residing in Salagi, for unlawful possession of a firearm and ammunition.
According to police, the arrest followed a tip-off from an informant who reported gunshots and threatening behavior at Sawo’s residence.
Officers responded promptly and upon arrival discovered several empty cartridges outside the premises. A search of the suspect’s room led to the recovery of a 9mm Walther pistol (serial number BC23169595) along with nine rounds of ammunition—five expended and four unused.
During questioning, Sawo admitted owning the weapon but denied firing it. He told investigators that he had found the firearm hidden and decided to keep it for personal use.
Police confirmed that the suspect is currently in custody while further investigations continue. Authorities have urged the public to report any information on illegal possession of firearms as part of efforts to curb rising security threats.
