Gambiaj.com – (BANJUL, The Gambia) – The Gambia Police Force has launched an investigation into what it describes as a major cybercrime operation uncovered in Tujereng, Kombo South.

In a raid, police seized multiple electronic devices, including 36 laptops, 174 mobile phones, 32 desktop computers, and a range of networking equipment believed to have been used in the illicit activities.

A total of 60 suspects, all foreign nationals presumed to be of Chinese and Vietnamese origin, were taken into custody. Authorities said they are working with relevant institutions to confirm the exact nationalities of the detainees.

Preliminary findings suggest the suspects were engaged in fraudulent activities linked to offshore companies.

The scheme allegedly targeted victims abroad, using cryptocurrency investment scams and social media recruitment strategies to lure unsuspecting individuals.

While investigations are ongoing, police emphasized their determination to combat cybercrime in the country.

The Gambia Police Force reaffirms its commitment to the fight against cybercrime and urges the public to remain vigilant and cautious of online investment schemes that promise unrealistic returns,” the force said in a statement.

The case is expected to draw further scrutiny as investigators collaborate with international partners to trace the extent of the network and its impact on victims abroad.
