Police Anti-Crime Unit head Momodou Sowe confirmed that Ousainou Bojang, the first accused in the Sukuta-Jabang Traffic Lights police shooting trial, has confessed to the crime.
“He confessed to me that he did the act. He [told me] he shot at them,’’ Commissioner Momodou Sowe told the court.
Commissioner Sowe stated that he was informed during the drive from the Casamance area of Diouloulou that double PC Ancy Jawo was the intended recipient of the broken windscreen of the Benz parked at the crime scene.
“He also explained to me how he escaped after the shooting incident. His sister, the second accused, facilitated his escape by providing a Benz C-class that took him up to Darsilami. He entered Senegal through Casamance to Diouloulou,’’ Sowe said.
Ousainou allegedly claimed to have problems with his white lover, who had threatened to share his nude films on social media, according to Commissioner Sowe. Ousainou, however, was unable to provide more context for this assertion and instead turned his attention to telling the story of the shooting incident.
Commissioner Sowe explained that Ousainou was wearing a haftan during the shooting and led investigators to the recovery of the cloth. He later claimed to wear canvas shoes but later claimed desert combat boots. Ousainou escaped with his sister’s help, using a Benz taxi to reach the Darsilami border. The recovered items are currently with the forensic officers.
“During the investigation, he said that he was not using that combat shoe but instead a desert combat shoe that was recovered subsequently by investigators from their compound.” .
The matter will be heard again on Thursday, December 14th, 2023, at 1 p.m.
