Gambiaj.com – (Banjul, The Gambia) — Ousainou Bojang, who stands accused of murder and other serious charges, testified on Wednesday, revealing details of disputes surrounding his work at a lodge where he acted as both a security guard and property manager.
Bojang faces charges of murder, attempted murder, committing a terrorist act, and assault causing grievous bodily harm. His sister, Amie Bojang, is charged as an accessory after the fact to murder.
The charges stem from an incident on September 12, 2023, at Sukuta traffic lights, where Bojang allegedly shot three police officers, killing two and leaving another with life-threatening injuries. Bojang has denied the allegations in court.
During Wednesday’s proceedings, Bojang resumed his testimony from where he left off the previous day. Senior Lawyer Lamin J. Darboe, representing the defense, questioned him about various events leading up to the alleged shooting, including his relationship with a woman named Claudette, for whom he managed an apartment.
Bojang testified that Claudette had given him power of attorney to rent her apartment to holidaymakers, but disputes arose when she accused him of financial mismanagement. He explained, “The tenant that was renting the apartment pays the rent, and I deposit the money to Claudette’s account. There are four apartments, and each makes a contribution to maintenance. I pay her share of D6,450 monthly.”
Bojang claimed that Claudette wrongly accused him of mismanagement based on information from her friend, Famara Sarjo. “Claudette believed the story. She told me during a conversation that she would do something I would regret in my life,” he added, suggesting that the woman had threatened to expose private video calls between them.
The testimony also delved into the fallout with Sarjo, who reportedly went to Brusubi Police Station after a heated exchange with Bojang. Bojang said he was summoned to the station, where he met Sarjo in the presence of a police officer, Sidi Sonko.
Wednesday’s court proceedings did not address how these personal disputes might connect to the alleged shooting incident. The trial is set to continue on November 25, 2024 with further details likely to emerge.
