Ebou Sowe, a police officer, testified in the murder trial of Ousainou Bojang and his sister, Amie Bojang. Bojang is charged with murder, attempted murder, terrorist acts, and assault causing great bodily harm. He allegedly shot three police officers, killing two and injuring one.
Officer Sowe described a gunshot occurrence in detail, including his participation as a first responder and interviews with eyewitnesses. He was told that the suspect, Ousainou, was tall and slender and that eyewitnesses had pursued him, but he had escaped by entering an unfinished structure.
Officer Sowe recognized two of the soldiers who handed over the empty bullet casings when questioned. They were Bojang and Jatta. However, he couldn’t recall the third person’s name. Officer Sowe stated that he turned over the empty gunshot shells to a police forensic officer for inspection.
Officer Sowe went to the accused’s escape route the next day, rather than the night of the incident. He went to the escape route with a forensic officer, where they discovered a shoe print and an empty casing. He also reported the capture of a suspect in Senegal, and a squad was deployed to retrieve him.
Ousainou was interviewed by Office Sowe, who admitting to shooting three cops and fleeing to Senegal. He admitted to throwing away the weapon while leaving and revealed that he had fighting shoes and a ‘hatfan’ in his home. The investigators examined Brufut and discovered evidence in the form of a hatfan and a combat shoe.
According to Officer Sowe, the Anti-Crime Unit asked Ousainou to accompany them to the gun-throwing spot, but no weapon was located. He attempted to acquire Ousainou’s cautionary statement, but owing to exhaustion, he asked for a later date.
Officer Sowe testified that on September 14, additional questioning focused on Ousainou’s combat shoe. He claimed to have worn a white shoe at first, but it turned out to be quite clean. In the presence of an impartial witness, Ousainou made confessional and cautionary statements in addition to confirming the identity of the real shoe he hid in his house.
Justice Jaiteh adjourned the trial for the continuation of testimony to January 9th, 16th, 17th, 29th, and 30th; February 5th, 6th, 7th, 12th, 13th, 20th, 26th, 27th, and 28th; and March 4th, 5th, and 6th, 2024.
