Gambiaj.com – (BANJUL, The Gambia) – The trial of Ousainou Bojang and his sister, Amie Bojang, was adjourned on Monday at the Banjul High Court after the Director of Public Prosecutions (DPP) failed to appear.

State lawyer M. Singhateh, who appeared on behalf of the State, informed the court that she could not proceed because she had not been properly briefed on the matter.

“I am not in a position to proceed because I do not have full information about the case,” Singhateh told the court.

Ousainou Bojang’s lawyer, Lamin J. Darboe, confirmed that the DPP personally contacted him to explain that he was ill and unable to attend the hearing. Darboe then requested the court to grant an adjournment since Singhateh was unfamiliar with the case details.

However, Amie Bojang’s lawyer, Adama Sillah, objected to the adjournment request, arguing that no medical report or official document had been submitted to justify the DPP’s absence. “There is no proper evidence before this court to explain why the DPP is not here today,” Sillah said.

After hearing the arguments, the judge adjourned the matter to tomorrow, June 10, 2025, from 11 a.m. to 12 p.m. for the continuation of the cross-examination of Defense Witness 4.

Ousainou and Amie Bojang are facing charges relating to the September 2023 fatal shooting of two police officers in The Gambia.

Ousainou Bojang is accused of carrying out the shooting, while Amie Bojang is accused of assisting him in his escape. The siblings, who both pleaded not guilty, are being tried together at the Banjul High Court, with several witnesses already called to testify.
