Gambiaj.com – (BANJUL) – Omar Drammeh, a police sergeant from the Anti-Crime Unit of the Gambia Police Force, continued his testimony in the trial of Gorgui Sowe, also known as Yugo Sowe, who is facing charges of attempted murder, assault, bodily harm, and domestic violence. The accused allegedly attacked his first wife in Brikama Jalanbang, causing severe injuries.
During his testimony, Sergeant Drammeh detailed the events following the incident. He stated that after taking the victim to Brikama Health Centre, they proceeded to the residence of the accused’s second wife. There, they recovered clothes and a cutlass, which the second wife identified as belonging to the accused. These items were taken as exhibits and transported in a patrol vehicle.
When questioned by Counsel A. Gibba, Sergeant Drammeh confirmed his ability to recognize the clothes, described as a sea-green kaftan, and other items such as a mattress, bedsheet, and a small cutlass with a black handle, all stained with blood.
The witness positively identified these items in court, and Prosecuting Counsel A. Gibba applied to tender them as evidence, which was accepted and marked by the court. Additionally, Sergeant Drammeh mentioned the recovery of a blood-stained shirt from behind the second wife’s residence, which was also tendered into evidence.
During cross-examination, Defence Counsel O. Susso questioned the witness’s initial statement about receiving a call regarding an attack on an old woman by armed robbers. The witness clarified that he received information about the incident via phone.
The presiding Judge Justice Jaiteh adjourned the case to 20th May 2024 for the continuation of the cross-examination of Sergeant Drammeh.
