Gambiaj.com – (BANJUL, The Gambia) – The Gambia Police Force (GPF) has issued a formal advisory to media houses and the public, urging them to disregard unverified online claims regarding the recent murder of a young woman in Brusubi. The police cautioned that premature reporting and the circulation of unsubstantiated rumors could severely jeopardize the integrity of the ongoing investigation.
In a statement aimed at safeguarding the legal process, the police emphasized that while the media plays a vital role in keeping the public informed, the publication of incomplete information can unintentionally undermine detectives’ efforts and compromise the administration of justice for the victim.
A Plea for Investigative Integrity
The police high command expressed concern over the potential for “evidentiary integrity” to be affected by the spread of unconfirmed reports. They reminded media practitioners and the general public of the importance of allowing investigations to run their full course before reaching conclusions or publishing speculative details.
In the interest of accuracy, the GPF encouraged all stakeholders to obtain verified updates exclusively through the Office of Public Relations of the Gambia Police Force.
The statement further noted that the police value their longstanding partnership with the media and appreciate continued cooperation in promoting responsible reporting that supports public confidence and due process.
