In Al Ahsa, Saudi Arabia’s eastern area, the Gambia national football team began preparations for its second consecutive AFCON. The Scorpions have arrived for a seven-day training camp before getting down to business.
The players and staff have already settled into their rooms at the Somewhere Hotel, and their first training session at the Prince Abdullah Bin Jalawi Stadium will begin at 4 p.m. local time. Saintfiet and his entourage will stay here until January 8th, when they will sail for Banjul, arriving in the early hours of January 9th.
On the same day, they will receive the battle flag and train at the Independence Stadium, while the Belgian will conduct a news conference to announce his final squad that will represent Belgium. the country at the African Cup of Nations.
The Gambia have been drawn in Group C and will start their campaign on Monday January 15 against the current holders Senegal.
From there, they will face Cameroon and Guinea in the host nation of Cote d’Ivoire before the group stage ends.
The Gambia’s final squad for AFCON will be announced on January 9.
