Gambiaj.com – (Dakar, Senegal) – President Bassirou Diomaye Faye has dismissed his Chief of Staff, Pape Mada Ndour, following controversial remarks made during a televised interview. The decision was formalized through decree number 2025-346, issued on February 28, 2025, according to government sources.
Pape Mada Ndour, a trained diplomat and former First Secretary at Senegal’s Embassy in Morocco until June 2023, had been appointed to the influential position on April 30, 2024. However, his tenure was abruptly ended after he made unexpected revelations about behind-the-scenes political dealings involving President Faye and Prime Minister Ousmane Sonko.
During an appearance on the program Tribune d’Actualités on Sans Limites, Ndour disclosed details about a previously denied meeting between Faye, Sonko, and former President Macky Sall. “Me, Bassirou Diomaye Faye, Abass Fall, Ousmane Sonko, and Birame Souleye went to Macky Sall two days before our meeting at the palace. We went to chat with him to describe. We went at night, and President Macky Sall welcomed us very well,” Ndour stated.
His comments directly contradicted Prime Minister Sonko, who had repeatedly dismissed claims of a prior meeting with Sall before the official power transition. The disclosure reportedly angered President Faye, prompting swift action against his chief of staff.
Ndour’s dismissal mirrors that of Cheikh Oumar Diagne, another high-ranking official who was recently removed for crossing what insiders describe as “the red rubicon” set by President Faye. Both cases highlight the administration’s intolerance for internal breaches of confidentiality, particularly concerning the intricate dynamics of the Faye-Sonko leadership.
As the political fallout unfolds, the incident raises fresh questions about transparency and internal discipline within Senegal’s new administration.
