Outgoing President Macky Sall of Senegal has announced that the presidential election will be held on Sunday, March 24, 2024. This decision follows the reception of the opinion of the Constitutional Council stating that said arranging the vote for a date after President Macky Sall’s mandate expires on April 2 would be unconstitutional.
In a press release from the Council of Ministers on Wednesday, it was stated, “The President of the Republic informed the Council of Ministers of the setting of the date of the presidential election for Sunday March 24, 2024.”
President Sall also took the opportunity to commend all the governments that have served during his tenure over the past 12 years. He praised their efforts and the exceptional results achieved within the framework of the implementation of the Emerging Senegal Plan.
The upcoming presidential election marks a significant moment for Senegal as it prepares for a transition of power.
President Sall, who has been in office since 2012, announced earlier that he would not seek a third term, respecting the constitutional term limits.
This election will be crucial in determining the future direction of the country and its development plans.
