Gambiaj.com – (NAIROBI, Kenya) – President William Ruto and his chief guest, President Adama Barrow, brought energy and joy to Kenya’s 61st Jamhuri Day celebrations at Uhuru Gardens as he danced to performances by legendary Kenyan artists. The event, held annually to commemorate Kenya’s independence, was marked by vibrant displays of culture, music, and unity.
When DNA took the stage to perform his iconic hit Banjuka, President Ruto led the festivities, dancing alongside his wife, First Lady Rachel Ruto, and the day’s chief guest, Gambian President Adama Barrow. The leaders were seen laughing and showing off their moves, a moment that delighted attendees and captured the essence of the celebration.
In his speech, President Barrow emphasized the strong historical ties between Kenya and The Gambia, noting the potential to expand bilateral relations. “There is ample scope to explore and deepen relations with Kenya,” he stated, underlining the shared aspirations of the two nations.
The festivities showcased Kenya’s rich musical heritage, featuring performances by household names like Jaguar, Jua Cali, Mejja, Mr. Lenny, and the trio P-Unit. Other standout acts included Kleptomaniax’s Collo, Daddy Owen, Esther Wahome, and DNA, whose electrifying performance brought the audience, including the dignitaries, to their feet.
After the ceremony, the celebration continued at Kenya’s State House, where President Ruto introduced his mother to President Barrow. This personal touch highlighted the warmth and camaraderie of the occasion.
Jamhuri Day, a Swahili term for “republic,” marks Kenya’s independence on December 12, 1963, following internal self-rule on June 1 of the same year. This year’s celebration not only honored Kenya’s journey as a republic but also celebrated the cultural pride and unity that define the nation.
Kenyans hailed the event as a resounding success, praising the vibrant performances and the inclusion of celebrated artists who brought life to the national holiday. As the sun set over Uhuru Gardens, the joy and unity displayed during the celebrations served as a powerful reminder of Kenya’s rich heritage and enduring spirit.
