The Ministry of Higher Education, Research, Science, and Technology (MoHERST) has announced the appointment of Professor Samuel P. Owusu-Ofori as the Interim Vice-Chancellor of the University of Applied Science, Engineering, and Technology (USET), with effect from January 1, 2024, to September 31, 2024.
In his new role, Professor Owusu-Ofori will be responsible for providing leadership and strategic direction to USET. He will oversee the coordination of activities across the institution’s three components, including the day-to-day administration of the College of Science & Engineering (STEE), the Institute of Technical Training and its regional annexes, the Institute of Innovation and Entrepreneurship, and related administrative activities.
Professor Samuel P. Owusu-Ofori is a distinguished scholar with over 40 years of academic experience, having served as a professor and administrator primarily in the United States. He holds a BSc Degree in Mechanical Engineering from the Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology (KNUST), a Master of Science Degree from Bradley University (USA), and a Doctor of Philosophy from the University of Wisconsin-Madison (USA).
Professor Owusu-Ofori is a renowned expert in statistical and stochastic techniques, specializing in mechanical equipment design, manufacturing technology development, and engineering education.
Prior to his appointment as Interim Vice-Chancellor, Professor Owusu-Ofori joined USET in 2021 as a Senior University Consultant under the World Bank-funded ACE Impact Project. In this capacity, he played a key role in supporting the transformation of the Gambia Technical Training Institute (GTTI) into USET by establishing the Emerging Centre of Excellence on Science, Technology, and Engineering for Entrepreneurship (STEE).
Professor Samuel P. Owusu-Ofori, a renowned engineering and technology expert, was awarded the “Boeing Professor of Manufacturing” in 1999 and an Honorary Doctor of Science degree by KNUST in 2005. His appointment as interim vice chancellor was met with congratulations.
