Gambiaj.com – (BANJUL) – In the ongoing murder trial of Ousainou Bojang and Amie Bojang, the Director of Public Prosecution (DPP), Abdurrahman Maitama Yusuf, presented crucial evidence to the court. The evidence included an alleged murder weapon, empty bullet casings, and a live round, all submitted as Prosecution Exhibits.
Ousainou Bojang is facing six charges, including the murder of two Police Intervention Unit (PIU) officers, while his elder sister, Amie Bojang, faces a single charge for accessory after the fact of murder.
Testifying as the Eighth Prosecution Witness (PW8), Police Investigator Francis Jatta detailed his involvement in the case. He informed the court about the discovery of multiple exhibits at the crime scene and within Ousainou Bojang’s residence.
Mr. Jatta mentioned that a forensic team, led by Ebrima Kagne, was set up to visit the crime scene at the Sukuta Jabang Traffic Lights. Upon arrival, they found two empty bullet casings and later discovered an additional empty casing and a live round along the assailant’s escape route.
After the recovery, the empty bullet cases and the live round were sent to the Gambia National Army for ballistic examination. The reports were then forwarded to the Prosecutors and incorporated into the case file.
The investigation team also recovered clothing items, including a grey-colored Haftan, black trousers, and a black jacket, from Ousainou Bojang’s residence. Additionally, two pairs of combat or desert boots were recovered on a subsequent visit to the residence.
Furthermore, on September 22nd, 2023, the murder weapon, a pistol, was found, recovered, and brought to the Criminal Records Office for storage. It underwent examination by the military, and upon its return, it was stored at the Criminal Records Office.
During the proceedings, the empty bullet cases, live round, clothing items, and the pistol were tendered as evidence and admitted by the court. Due to storage constraints, the pistol was handed over to the prosecution until arrangements could be made.
The case was adjourned to May 20th, 2024, for continuation.
