Gambiaj.com – (MOSCOW, Russia) – Russian President Vladimir Putin held a telephone conversation with Senegalese President Bassirou Diomaye Faye on Wednesday, marking a significant step towards enhancing cooperation between the two nations. The call, initiated by Senegal, focused on bolstering traditionally friendly relations, particularly in trade, investment, and development projects.
According to the Kremlin, the leaders emphasized the importance of expanding economic ties through collaborative ventures in energy, transport, and agriculture. Putin and Faye underscored the need for increased engagement of Russian businesses with Senegalese partners to unlock the potential of these sectors.
“The leaders spoke in favor of strengthening the traditionally friendly Russian-Senegalese relations in the trade, economic, and investment spheres, including the implementation of promising joint projects in energy, transport, and agriculture, in particular through more active participation of Russian business in working with Senegalese partners,” read a Kremlin statement.
Beyond economic cooperation, the discussion addressed pressing regional issues in the Sahara and Sahel, where terrorist groups continue to fuel instability. Both leaders highlighted the need for sustained efforts to promote security and development across West Africa.
As a gesture of goodwill, President Putin invited President Faye to visit Russia, an offer that was graciously accepted. This upcoming visit is expected to further consolidate the partnership between Russia and Senegal, paving the way for deeper collaboration on mutual interests.
The call reflects Russia’s broader efforts to strengthen its ties with African nations, particularly in regions with strategic economic and geopolitical significance.
