Gambiaj.com – (Banjul, The Gambia) – President Adama Barrow and leaders of The Gambia’s ruling coalition have agreed to conduct all political activities jointly as part of a unified campaign strategy for the 2026 elections. The decision emerged from a high-level strategic meeting held on Sunday, April 20, in Banjul, where President Barrow met with regional executive committee members from eight allied political parties under the Grand Ruling Alliance.
Moderated by NPP Deputy Spokesman Hon. Seedy SK Njie, the gathering focused on solidifying the coalition’s unity and defining a shared roadmap for the 2026 electoral cycle.
Agreed Strategy for 2026 Elections
One of the most critical outcomes of the meeting was the unanimous endorsement of President Adama Barrow as the coalition’s “undisputed presidential candidate” for the 2026 elections.
Mai Ahmad Fatty of GMC rallied all partners to close ranks and consolidate gains under Barrow’s leadership, calling for intensified grassroots engagement and regional coordination.
To further this effort, President Barrow issued a directive for all alliance members to conduct political events jointly going forward — a move aimed at projecting a unified front and maximizing impact across constituencies.
The strategy will include coordinated rallies, media engagements, voter outreach, and policy messaging that reflects the coalition’s collective agenda.
Dr. Demba Sabally, NPP First Deputy National President, reinforced the call for deeper regional collaboration and applauded the momentum built around the President’s developmental track record.
Focus Areas of the Next Political Agenda
In his closing remarks, President Barrow outlined the alliance’s strategic pillars for national transformation, highlighting key priorities.
One of such priorities is universal access to electricity: Barrow renewed his ambitious pledge to make The Gambia the first African country to achieve universal electricity access by the end of 2025/2026.
On essential services expansion, Barrow reaffirmed commitments to clean water, healthcare, education, and road infrastructure as the bedrock of national prosperity.
He reaffirmed his administration’s agenda for enhanced economic growth as a mean to target improved public service delivery, civil service reforms, and economic diversification.
President Barrow thanked the coalition members for their trust and support, promising to continue leading with a people-centered approach that focuses on inclusive growth and national development.
Celebrating Past Achievements
Participants hailed the Barrow-led administration for what they described as transformative achievements since taking office. Highlights included a 110% increase in civil servant salaries over the past seven years and nationwide electrification initiatives aimed at full coverage by 2025, major investments in education, healthcare, and road infrastructure, and the promotion of democratic values, rule of law, and citizen rights.
Convened by the National People’s Party (NPP), the meeting brought together representatives from the Alliance for Patriotic Reorientation and Construction (APRC), National Reconciliation Party (NRP), Gambia Moral Congress (GMC), Citizens’ Alliance (CA), Gambia Party for Democracy and Progress (GPDP), Alliance for National Re-orientation and Development (ANRD), and National Convention Party (NCP). The Democratic Party (DP) was absent due to its ongoing national congress in Brikamaba.
NPP Administrative Secretary Mr. Seedy Ceesay noted that the meeting was not only about strategy but also about reaffirming shared values and loyalty to national progress.
As The Gambia moves closer to a competitive electoral season, Sunday’s meeting signals a critical pivot by the ruling alliance to tighten coordination, amplify its developmental message, and present a united campaign front under President Barrow’s leadership.
